The dot SE country-code extension was established in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its introduction, the registration procedure was pretty restrictive, so a very low number of domains were registered. Individuals were permitted to buy no more than one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was necessary, i.e. only Swedish individuals, companies and organizations were able to acquire a dot SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized considerably and, consequently, the number of dot SE domains has been mounting each year.

At this time, anyone can purchase a .SE domain name, which gives you the chance to get in touch with the Swedish WWW community even if you do not have a local presence.
